My Photograph of the Day is 'Ta Prohm Ruins.' Taken on Christmas Day in Siem Reap, Cambodia at Angkor Wat, Ta Prohm is perhaps the most famous temple complex in the area. The temple is partially reclaimed by the surrounding jungle and was used in the Tomb Raider movie series.
We had spent the morning visiting Angkor Wat proper and Angkor Thom. And on our way to eat lunch, we stopped off at the Thommanon. For those who may not know, Angkor Wat is really a region just outside of Siem Reap which is comprised of ancient cities built by the various Khmer kings back in the 11th through the 13th centuries.
After spending most of the day visiting various sites within Angkor Wat, we finally came to the location that I had been anxious to visit, Ta Prohm. Here at this temple complex the jungle had encroached and reclaimed the ruins, with many of the buildings having collapsed from disrepair and the growing trees.
Ta Prohm had always been on my list of places to visit. However, since the Tomb Raider movies, it has been made famous, especially this particular location with Ta Prohm. It is here that Laura Croft character comes out of the ruins. And so, on the day of my visit, the place was crowded with tourist, all vying for a spot to take this iconic photograph. But I beat the crowd, and got this shot before they all showed up to take their selfies!
One of the many photographs possible at Angkor Wat, is from a visit to Ta Prohm Temple complex. There along a walkway one can find this Apsara seemingly embedded by a tree growing up through the temple ruins.
On a visit to Banteay Kdei in Angkor Wat, Cambodia, we came across a woman deep in prayer at a Buddhist shrine in one of the temples. It made the once ancient temple come alive and reminded me of the sacredness of this place.
Angkor Wat was everything I'd imagined it was. Temples after temples reaching back into time. Ta Prohm was perhaps one of my favorite temple complexes. It is temple complex where the jungle has encroached and has begun to reclaim the area once again. It is simply an amazing place to visit and to photograph. This artwork is one such print I was able to create from Ta Prohm.
Ta Prohm, perhaps most famous for the Laura Croft Tomb Raider movie, is a temple complex within Angkor Wat that is partially overgrown by the surrounding forest. It is a magical place for the photographer.
A new feature for 2018, I am posting a photograph of the day and sharing my work with you.
Just down the road from Ta Prohm is Banteay Kdei, a Buddhist temple built by Jayavarman VII in the Bayon style similar to Ta Prohm. Banteay Kdei means the "Citadel of Chambers" and the name is pretty accurate. Although smaller than Ta Prohm, it too is in a state of disrepair and is in the midst of renovations. However, unlike…
Perhaps one of the most photogenic of the Angkor Wat temples, Ta Prohm was left pretty much as it was found intertwined with the jungle. Even though it has been cleared a little to allow for people to visit the various sections of the temple complex, it still has that "swallowed by the jungle" look and feel. Ta Prohm was…
[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]A quick tutorial showing how I typically process a photograph. In this case a photograph I took while at Angkor Wat Archaeological Park in Siem Reap. The photograph was taken at the Bayon in Angkor Thom. One of my favorite photographs from that location is the smiling face of Javayaman VII who had the Bayon built in the 12th century as seen…
