After a day on the beach, my wife decided that I should take a photograph of her footprints as she walked along the beach. So I did, and this photograph is the result.
My Photograph of the Day is Sandbridge Morning. Sandbridge beach is one of a number of beaches in Virginia Beach, Virginia. This photograph is of a beautiful sunrise with sand dunes and the gentle washing of the waves on the beach.
A nice photograph of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel from Chesapeake Beach during the blue hour. The pastel colors of the sky and silky water from a long exposure adds to the beauty of the scene.
As I have noted in other Photographs of the Day that I used to live in Virginia Beach, which meant that I would occasionally head out to the beach before daylight hoping to catch a colorful morning sunrise. I love heading to the beach during predawn, when the ocean is calm and peaceful, the waves are lapping along the shoreline,…
When I lived in Virginia Beach, I was asked by an Interior Designer to go out and find subjects to photograph of the local area. So on one of my many journeys exploring around Hampton Roads I found myself in southern Chesapeake down near the Dismal Swamp, where I took this photograph of some old tractors.
When I lived in Virginia Beach, I used to do the local art shows. Perhaps my favorite was the Virginia Beach Boardwalk Art Show. I had done a couple of this particular show as well as the Neptune Arts Festival show. At one of these shows I met an interior designer who encouraged me to photograph various areas around Hampton Roads. She liked my style, and needed some good prints of local places to hang in offices around the area. And she turned me on this location called Dockside.
What I love about sunrise - and it is the same here in Arizona in the desert - is how the colors of the rising sun reflect on the clouds. You can watch the colors travel across the sky and it is amazing to see. This particular morning I really wanted to catch the clouds light up with the first light which often colors the clouds a beautiful purple before turning red and then orange and then finally yellow.
On this particular morning, it was chilly and there was no wind, which meant that I might be able to catch a nice sunrise. There were sufficient clouds in the sky to help add to the overall photograph I had envisioned in my head. I find that the quality of light is very different in the fall-winter-spring months as the sun is closer to the horizon for a longer time than during the late spring-summer-early fall months
This is a lucky shot! The first bit of luck, my wife got tickets to be at the center line for the airshow in Virginia Beach! The second bit of luck was that I was able to rent a 100-400mm lens for the occasion, and it showed up on time (usually does, but sometimes I am not so lucky!). Third bit of luck was this shot, captured just as the planes were literally right in front of me!
A woodland pathway amid the fog. The sense of the unknown and exploration seemed to call out to me as I took this photograph along the Blue Ridge Parkway in Virginia.
It was one of those early evenings in late winter when the sky lights up red from the setting sun. On this evening it seemed like the sky was on fire with the red light of the setting sun...
On one of my last days living in Virginia Beach, I headed out to Sandbridge Beach to catch the sunrise. The atmospherics were such that the light was this beautiful golden orange color, and everything was awashed in the beautiful light...
