The sun finally began to peak over the horizon, and I set up for this shot and waited for the sun to arise to the top of the pine tree at the rim. Now the Grand Canyon here looks very different from the other views further down the canyon. The rim here is far apart and the layers and layers of buttes and mesas seem endless.

I arrived at the north rim of the Grand Canyon at 3 am.  Once I had parked my car in the parking lot at Point Imperial, I quickly fell asleep.  Dawn came a few hours later (lucky for me, I can't sleep when it gets light out, so I wake up when the sky lightens up), and I got out and stretched my aching back and legs, and took some sunrise photographs at Point Imperial.
