The arrival of a new day at Portland Headlight, Cape Elizabeth, Maine.

It was frigid, as it usually is before sunrise in late December.  But that didn’t stop me from making this photograph.  Setup on a tripod, my camera took a number of images as I stood there shivering.  Even with hat and coat and warm boots I was still chilly.  But the arrival of the new day was just beautiful and I was joyful as the sun rose.

This photograph was taken with my Canon 5D Mark II using my Tamron 24-70mm f/2.8 set at 52mm focal length. My 5D was set at f/16 at 1/40 of a second shutter speed and an ISO of 100.

This is actually a merge of two photographs, one with the lamp in the tower and the other (with a better sky) without the lamp.  Processed in Lightroom to bring out some detail in the shadows, and then a round in Photoshop for spot removal and a trip to Color Efx Pro for a little color processing.

If you’d like to purchase this as a print, or as a canvas wrap, or as a metal print, head over to my Fine Art America website to see what your options are!
